Let the committee draw three artifacts no honest scholar would shelve together. Objections are raised, provenance is searched, strangers are certified.
West Annex · Admission free, thesis compulsory
Unrelated objects.
Related by force.
The main building preserves oversized certainty about trivial things. This annex puts that certainty to work: an acquisitions committee draws three provably unaffiliated artifacts from the whole of Wikipedia, hangs them on one wall, and appoints a guest curator — you — contractually obligated to connect them in 3,000 words.

How the annex works
Write the wall text. The conviction that was needless in the main building is mandatory here — the objects will not connect themselves.
3,000 words minimum, drafted at the curator’s desk. Surprise yourself before you attempt to surprise the reader. If you already see the link, deaccession.
Basement level · The acquisitions committee
Three artifacts, no acquaintance
The committee pulls live candidates from English Wikipedia, rejects the living, the political, the current, and the under-documented, then runs a provenance search between every surviving pair. Anything within reach of anything else — a shared category, a link path shorter than the registrar’s standard — is sent back to storage.
Committee bylaws (settings)
The essayist is an AI kept on retainer server-side (your API key never enters this page). POST contract: {topics:[a,b,c], maxWords:500} → JSON {essay, quote}, CORS open. An importable n8n workflow ships in tools/n8n-resident-essayist.json. Once your endpoint is stable, hardcode it as this input’s value= — same pattern as the ledger above.
Same ledger as the main slot machine — annex acquisitions are filed with mode “museum”. Rules match the Disparate Topics Challenge exactly: no living people, no politics active in the last ~100 years, no current events, 3,000+ documented words, no shared categories, every pair ≥ the registrar standard in either link direction (1–2 exact, 3 sampled).
Main floor · The special exhibition
The gallery wall
Each artifact arrives with its placard, its accession number, and its certificate. If you can already see the connection, press deaccession — the annex wants surprise, not confirmation.

Rotunda inscription, west wing
“Conviction about ketchup is a hobby. Conviction that three certified strangers belong in one room — that is a calling.”

Experimental wing · Machine no. 5
The Exhibition Placard Machine
Descended from the main building’s Personal Doctrine Generator, this machine drafts an exhibition thesis for whatever three artifacts currently hang on the wall — with the confidence of a tenured pamphleteer and none of the reading. Use it as a starting pistol, a provocation, or a warning.
EXHIBITION — AWAITING ACQUISITION
The Wall Is Currently Honest
No artifacts hang in the annex. Convene the acquisitions committee above, and the machine will draft a unifying thesis for three things that have never heard of one another.
Therefore: acquire first. Certainty will be supplied while you wait.
Staff only · The curator’s desk
Write the connection into existence
This is where the annex stops being satire. 3,000 words, drafted here or anywhere, until the coincidence blinks first. The desk saves your draft locally as you type and promotes you as the word count climbs.
Every exhibition begins as a blank room and a curator who has promised too much.
Department of visiting docents
The docent referendum
The main building holds tribunals about ketchup. The annex asks the only question its own existence raises. Results are stored in your browser, where all serious scholarship ends up.
Can three certified strangers be honestly connected?
Archive level · The permanent collection
Exhibitions already committed
Each filed exhibition hangs as its most framable sentence. Click a frame to read the full wall essay. Select a passage in your draft before filing to choose the quote yourself; otherwise the registrar picks one.
Nothing has been filed. The permanent collection is, for now, a rumor.
Exit through the gift shop
Souvenirs of the current exhibition
Merchandise regenerates with every acquisition. These objects are conceptual: the annex lacks inventory, fulfillment, and the administrative stamina to become a real store.
